This just blew my mind today when I saw it on the shelf.
The 20th Anniversary edition of the Princess Bride was released today, and though I am typically against buying a copy of a movie I already own, I must admit I was lured to own this movie. Just because of its cover.
The title “Princess Bride” is more stylized than its previous incarnations for a reason. When you look at the cover there is a younger Wesley and Buttercup, and mirror imaged is the Man in Black with Buttercup. As you rotate the cover over to see the mirrored reflection, the “Princess Bride” title REMAINS UPRIGHT. I made a rotating version if you want to take a look here
Im not kidding. Its called an ambigram which means the word can be read upsidedown as well as it is read right side up.
See, the cover of this movie just amazed me so much. And it has special features. I didn’t opt for the Buttercup or Dread Pirate Robert’s Editions that came out a while ago, so my copy is the original DVD release that has NO special features.
I am very visually oriented and distracted by ingenious elements like this. I applaud the designer.
Now it shall be mine!!
