One of the things that stood out to me as stellar casting in that hum-ho Man of Steel Green Lantern movie was the casting of Angela Bassett as no-nonsense, tough as nails, Amanda Waller a.k.a. DC’s answer to Sam Jackson’s Nick Fury. Bassett didn’t have a huge role but I thought it might have been a move of DC securing a top notch actor in what is possibly a character to appear in and tie together all of their films.
NOPE. Word is hitting the net that David Ayer is instead locking in Oscar nominee Viola Davis in the role. I wouldn’t call this move an upgrade in talent like with Terrance Howard and Don Cheadle in Iron Man, but more of a side step. I’m not complaining, just puzzled because they’re equally awesome actors and one has to wonder… WTF happened to cause the re-casting. Hell, Bassett was pretty excited about joining in on the fun while promoting Man of Steel so the casting switch is a little surprising.
One can only wonder. That’s all for now…
