It looks like the favored son of Peter Jackson has jumped on board the Tin Tin Express. We get news of this casting thanks to the caves of yahoo:
Andy Serkis is reteaming with director Peter Jackson in “Tintin,” the DreamWorks movie trilogy collaboration from the “Lord of the Rings” director and Steven Spielberg. Although DreamWorks would not confirm, it is believed Serkis will play the role of Captain Haddock, a temperamental sea captain, in British scribe Steven Moffat’s adaptation of the comic strip created by late Belgian animator Herge.
The three feature films will be made using performance-capture technology and produced in digital 3-D. Jackson and Spielberg are each directing an installment, with the director of the third movie yet to be determined.
Andy Serkis is to Peter Jackson what Johnny Depp is to Tim Burton. They work well together and I will never tire of their partnership. Tin Tin is shaping up to be a Titanic of a franchise and it hasn’t even left the dock. With international appeal, a timeless character, and gobs of talent behind it, I think it is safe to say that this series will be a money press.
Having Speilberg and Jackson take turns with directing responsibilities is a cool idea. I am interested in seeing what flavor each director brings to the table and am curious to see who will be called up for the third installment.
Tin Tin is a delightful character and it is comforting to know that he is in such good hands. This film should fan the flames of Tin Tin’s popularity for another generation and birth legions of fresh new fans.
