With the looming risk that the Golden Globes may be postponed or cancelled due to the Writer’s Guild Strike. We found out today that NBC has announced that the game is on.
The Peacock confirmed Monday it will proceed with airing the 65th annual installment of the pre-Oscar kudofest live from Los Angeles as planned on Jan. 13—despite the threat of picketing from the Writers Guild of America and fears that many of the nominated stars might not show up out of solidarity to striking scribes.
The Golden Globes are often said to be the dress rehearsals for the Oscars. Often they stand as predictions for the awards, though not always accurate.
The integrity of the Awards will not be thwarted by the inevitable display of support for the Writer’s Strike.
Maybe this will be a foreshadow of things to come and it won’t matter as the strike may well be over by then. Of course that means that it has to resolve in 10 days.
We can hope.
