It looks like Stallone wants to bring another long silent franchise out of the locker. The winds bring us news today that he desires to remake the Charles Bronson vigilante film Death Wish. We get the scoop this morning from firstshowing:
Stallone recently talked with IGN and told them that he’s interested in remaking the 1974 vigilante film Death Wish, and possibly even writing, directing, and starring (yet again). However, his modernized take “would be volcanic” and “would focus on defense attorneys” and “on [the people] allowing this crap to happen — not so much the guy on the street.”
Whereas the character of Paul Kersey, played by Charles Bronson in the 1974 original, was a completely pacifist man who turns violent after his wife is murdered, Stallone’s version would feature a much different kind of character.
Fuck this shit! Why do I want to see a movie that focuses on defense attorneys? Death Wish rules because it focuses on “the guy on the street,” this doesn’t sound like a remake at all. I think Stallone should just write the film he has in mind, and forget using the name Death Wish altogether.
I am against most remakes and do not see any reason to change my opinion for this one. Stallone can do what he likes with his own franchises and it is cool that he is capping them off; but leave Bronson’s alone (or leave the story as it was if you have to remake it). He needs to branch out now and start doing something new, he is using a crutch as far as I am concerned when he continually brings back tried and true names. Stallone wrote the original Rocky, the guy is talented and should do something fresh. I would be pumped to see another Stallone original of Rocky calibre, we all would; and this is what I think he should do.
Lets take a moment to remember the dude that was Charles Bronson. Yep, he was a black belt in dude. We miss you Bronson.
