It’s safe to say that few box office calendars have offered up as many fabulous films to see as 2017 has! From brand new blockbusters to those that carry on a legacy of films before them, this year will see many of us spending more time at the movies than doing anything else (not that we are complaining!). Here is just a tiny handful of our most anticipated films this year, so get your popcorn at the ready…
Justice League
While you may already know the stories of some of the Justice League characters individually, this movie assembles the whole team together to create an action-packed showcase for those longing to see more from our favourite DC crew. Zack Snyder was in charge of taking much loved characters like Batman, Wonder Woman and Superman and bringing them along for the ride alongside the very first big-screen introduction of characters such as Cyborg, The Flash and Aquaman. With stars like Ben Affleck, Amy Adams, Amber Heard and Henry Cavill taking on the task of making these childhood superhero favourites come to life, you can be assured of a good show!
Dunkirk
Christopher Nolan is back and he’s set to turn the tables on people feeling like they could really do without having to endure yet another World War II film! Dunkirk is, funnily enough, based on the story and series of events surrounding the Battle of Dunkirk where the Brits and allied forces fought against the onslaught of the German army. So far the film has witnessed an incredible social media response, with more than 808,000 new conversations being started about the movie when the new trailer broke in the beginning of May. Needless to say, the film is bound to be a huge success when you have the likes of Tom hardy and Harry Styles leading the way.
Baywatch
The classic plot of Baywatch (queue the boobs and slow motion running) is set to make a comeback in the form of a sexy movie starring the likes of Zac Efron, Dwayne Johnson, Alexandra Daddario and Priyanka Chopra. With the trailer hinting at some very tongue in cheek moments, this film is guaranteed to be your new favourite, light-hearted summer time chick flick.
Star Wars : Episode VIII
Due to be released in December, Star Wars : Episode VII is already tipped to be one of the most successful releases of this year – this is without us having any idea of what it is about! The follow up to The Force Awakens in 2015 has yet to be given an official title but what we can say is that Luke Skywalker is set to play an important part in the story. Rian Johnson has some big shoes to fill following on from the A+ job that J.J. Abrams did in the first instalment of this story.
Wonder Woman
It’s certainly safe to say that director Patty Jenkins has a lot of pressure on her hands with telling the story of Wonder Woman. This is the first comic book film directed by a female and also the first one to be led by a female superhero character (not to mention the additional issue of DC struggling to make a Marvel-sized film in terms of quality). The movie is set to follow the origin of Wonder Woman and tell her story while also playing homage to her kick-ass personality.
