Evolution of Movies

James Cutting

Over the decades movies have changed. We talk of Oscar winnings against box office hits and the declining revenues being experienced at the movies. These changes, however, come along with the films/movies industry other than the movies themselves. James Cutting a Cornell University Psychologist looked over the years of movie construction focusing on the amount of motion, use of light and shot length. Cutting saw that English language film shot length has declined from about 12 seconds to 2.5 seconds.

From the time that Charlie Chaplin was still alive and acting, the film industry has changed a great deal. The attention span of humans nowadays is shorter hence the shot length has had to decline.  The result has been shorter movies. Visuals have also been improved from Chaplin’s time. Back then films were in black and white. Now we are in the era of High Definition.

Graphics in movies have also changed over the years; today there is more computer participation in movies than ten years ago.  A good example of this is in “The Transformers” franchise. If one was to compare the technology used back then and on the latest movie, they would be in position to clearly distinguish and appreciate the technology. Although this tech has greatly decreased the number of actors (facial display), it has taken movie making to a whole new level. Even casinos are going online in order to be able to give players more while they also retain more.  You can visit Maplecasino casino games for more information about casino games.

Then there is the sound engineering. Anyone can confirm the difference, today’s flicks have superior sound. The voices are now clearer; a good mixture of sound and picture makes a good movie. The sound instruments used today are more advanced than those used five years ago. All this to ensure viewer satisfaction.

However, this does not mean that there were no good movies back then. It is just a step into the future where movies are made with more gadgets, fewer people and with high returns. A good example is online casino games as mentioned above. Land-based casinos are becoming more and more innovative and they want to adapt to technology. This is the future that we have to accept.
