It looks like Timothy Olyphant has scored himself another lead in A Perfect Getaway. We get wind of this casting and the following plot synopsis from our friends at Monsters And Critics:
Hitman’s Timothy Olyphant has signed to star in A Perfect Getaway for Relativity Media. MGM is set to distribute the action thriller. Variety reports the film is being directed by David Twohy (The Fugitive) and is based on his screenplay. The story follows a newlywed couple who have an encounter with two hikers. It is set to start shooting March 17th in Puerto Rico.
Tim was solid in Deadwood, but seemed horribly awkward when he played the lead in Hitman. It could have been due to direction, the script or just overall apathy regarding the project; I am grasping at straws trying to find a reason but only the people involved know the truth. I do not dislike Olyphant, and I am interested in seeing him play the lead in another project so we are able to compare properly.
Hitchhiker films are awesome and sadly have fucked over hitchhikers in the process. When people see a hitcher on the road, they quickly flash over every hitchhiking horror episode they have ever seen and drive on by. I fight the images in my head, and on occasion, will pick up a hitch hiker. I am aware of the risk however and know that if this dude is a serial killer – I will have to best him in battle. Usually I end up talking about tattoos with the hitcher (most have them) and I drop them off without incident. Tattoos are instant street credit with rough and tumble underworld types, and/or drunk drivers.
I remember one time my brother and I picked up a hitcher on our way back to Welland from our father’s house. As the dude ran to the car, my brother announced “shit his hand is in his pocket – he may have a gun.” I said “well it’s too late now, if he is going to kill us we had a good run.” The dude then hopped in the car, was from the Rose City, was into metal, had tattoos … and a gimp arm. We then laughed about the fact that we though he had a gun and he said “I get that a lot.” We then busted his chops about his hitch hiking technique and fellowshiped as we drove into the promise land.
