U2 has a new concert film that has been shot in the glorious world of 3-D. We hear wind of this news the band’s thoughts thanks to the mystical caves of Yahoo:
After a career playing to sold-out stadiums, U2 did what their fans have done for years — stood in line to see U2 perform. That concert was “U2 3D,” a film of the band’s 2005-06 Vertigo tour, shot at several shows in South America with new 3-D technology. “I was really hoping we weren’t crap after all these years. Luckily we weren’t,” guitarist The Edge told The Associated Press before the band donned plastic glasses to watch the movie’s premiere at the Sundance Film Festival on Saturday night.
Bono also expressed hope that the film would allow more people to experience their music, especially teenagers and college students who might not be able to afford the pricey tickets to their sold-out shows.
I do not mind U2, they have some songs I enjoy and some songs that I could care less about, but I would certainly be game to check out this 3-D concert extravaganza. I have met a few people that have been absolutely rabid about U2; I dated a girl in college that would wear Bono as a coat (if his skin was ever on the market). U2 has a lot of rabid fans and have huge mainstream like-ability, but I know one person that hates them as much as the pope hates condoms. His name is Repa and it is funny as hell to hear him go off on how how much he hates the band and the laundry list of reasons he gives to back up his opinion. I would love to have these two debate some time; for the benefit of all.
A 3-D concert film is one that I certainly want to see. I am wondering if the format will be enjoyable; or will having Bono sing right in my face make me feel uncomfortable. It is cool that U2 decided to use this format and give it a spin either way. U2 3D comes to theaters Feb 22, 2008.
